2018 was an exceptional year: after winning the Champions League and playing beautifully during the World Cup, Luka Modric won the prestigious Ballon d’Or. An incredible award for a discreet man, unused to the spotlight and pretty shy.
A trait he shares with one of his childhood heroes: Zinédine Zidane. As early as 2016, his former coach at Real Madrid had actually predicted that Modric had it in him to win the Ballon d’Or.
