The tie looked to be heading for extra-time until referee Michael Oliver gave the hosts a penalty, after Medhi Benatia brought down Lucas Vazquez in the box. Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon was sent off for his protests, and Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to send Real through to the last four for an eighth straight year.
