Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui and AS Roma coach Eusebio di Francesco spoke to the press as they wrapped up training in New Jersey’s Red Bull Arena on Monday.
Lopetegui confirmed that Real’s captain Sergio Ramos will make his first appearance of the pre-season. “[H]e arrived in a very good condition and is training at a very high level of intensity, the way it’s meant to be,” he informed reporters.
Madrid are preparing for life without Cristiano Ronaldo, following his multi-million dollar move to Juventus earlier in the summer.
As for the Italian side, di Francesco hoped the game would serve as good preparation for next season. “For me is way more important to know the new players and to understand how they mix with the old ones. This is the most important thing of this game, and it has no bearing on the Italian championship,” he said.
A total of 18 teams are competing for a chance to win the sixth edition of the International Champions Cup. The tournament is running from July 20 until August 11.
